Too many choices, too little connection
Dating apps give us access to hundreds or even thousands of potential matches. At first, this sounds exciting. But having endless options can also make it difficult to focus on one person.
There is always another profile to swipe through. Someone slightly more attractive. Someone who seems more interesting. Someone new who might be a better match.
Instead of asking, “Could I get to know this person?”, we can start asking, “Can I find someone better?”
And that changes the way we date.
We often meet profiles before we meet people
Online dating encourages us to make decisions based on a limited amount of information: a few photos, a short bio, a job title, and perhaps a list of interests.
But people are much more than their profiles.
You cannot see someone’s energy in a photograph. You cannot hear how they laugh, notice how they listen, or feel whether a conversation flows naturally.
Some of the most interesting connections happen in moments that would never look particularly impressive on a dating profile.
Dating can start to feel like an interview
“What do you do?”
“Where are you from?”
“How long have you been single?”
“What are you looking for?”
These questions aren’t bad. But when every date follows the same script, meeting someone new can start to feel like a job interview.
We are trying to collect information instead of experiencing the person in front of us.
Real connection usually needs something different: curiosity, playfulness, spontaneity, and enough time to let the conversation move beyond the obvious questions.
The pressure to find “the one”
Another reason modern dating can feel difficult is the pressure we put on every encounter.
What if this is the person?
What if it isn’t?
Should I continue talking to them? Should I feel butterflies? Is there chemistry? Could this become a relationship?
Sometimes we try to answer all these questions after a single conversation.
But not every meaningful encounter has to become a relationship.
Sometimes a person simply makes you laugh. Sometimes you discover an unexpected connection. Sometimes you meet someone who introduces you to a completely different perspective.
Dating becomes much lighter when we allow ourselves to be curious rather than immediately looking for an outcome.
What if we changed the way we meet?
Maybe the answer isn’t another dating app.
Maybe we simply need more opportunities to meet people in environments where we can be ourselves.
A shared experience can tell us more about someone than a profile ever could.
Making cocktails together. Playing a game. Sharing a table. Talking between activities. Laughing at something unexpected.
These moments create space for something that online dating often struggles to provide: real human interaction.
Dating doesn’t have to be a performance
You don’t need to present the perfect version of yourself.
You don’t need to impress everyone in the room.
And you don’t need to know immediately whether someone is “your person”.
You can simply show up, be curious, and have a conversation.
Perhaps the most refreshing approach to modern dating is to stop treating every meeting as a test — and start treating it as an opportunity to connect.
That is one of the ideas behind Soul Date.
We believe meeting someone should feel less like an interview and more like a real experience. A place where you can meet new people, have fun, discover unexpected connections and, maybe, meet someone who feels genuinely right for you.
Because sometimes, finding a connection starts with simply giving yourself the chance to meet someone in real life.
